Welcome to the 2017 Photographic Competition Season!
The first photographic competition entry deadline is today...TODAY!!! What does that mean? That means that I had to go through all of my images from last year to see if I felt like I had anything worthy of competition. What does that mean....that means I pulled a rabbit out of my hat! That's what that means. As I laugh to my self and then start crying...
Photographic Competition is like nothing else. It is not a photo contest. I am not entering an image to see if it is liked better than the next one! I am entering a competition where each image is judged based on 12 Elements not against another. 12 Elements - "defined as necessary for the success of an art piece or image. Any image, art piece or photograph will reveal some measure of all twelve elements, while a visually superior example will reveal obvious consideration of each one. They are: Impact, Creativity, Technical Excellence, Composition, Lighting, Style, Print Presentation, Center of Interest, Subject Matter, Color Balance Technique, Story Telling.
So, what does that mean? In my world, it means self-doubt, inability, obsessing, over working, more self-doubt, more over working...starting over and more over working followed by more self-doubt. Yes, darn it, I want to be the best possible photographer I can be, but there are times where I am just TIRED!!!!
As I mentioned above, the first Photographic Competition for me is Professional Photographers of California. The deadline is today. I entered my 6 images a week ago and now all I can do is wait. To be honest with you, I don't even remember which images I entered.... Judging will take place on February 26th, this coming Sunday.... I guess I will have to wait and see what happens.
Let the games begin!!!!
For your viewing pleasure, here are a couple from last year that went through the process...some did well, others did not. (Can't show you this years....not yet anyway).
