Wow! I am just gonna say WOW! I had the best week last week! I attended the 2017 West Coast School of Photography Down in San Diego from Jun 11 - 16. Everything took place on the University of San Diego Campus. With a number of classes being offered from lighting to posing to photoshop to painting using photoshop, there is something for everyone. Most of the attendees stayed in the dorms on campus which was perfect because you were right there. With a cafeteria and Mercado on campus, everything was right there within walking distance.
So, you want to know which class I took? Painting in Photoshop with the AMAZING Sandra Pearce who came all the way from Florida to teach this one week long class. It was the perfect class in that there were 11 students including myself. This gave us all one-on-one time with Sandra who led this class by example. The first couple of days seemed to go by so slow, it felt as if we had been there for a week, and then things started to click and make sense! After watching and listening and practicing and playing in Photoshop we were on our own, working on our images.
Sandra showed us her portfolio and it was an amazing example of her talent and humor and I absolutely loved that! So inspirational!
Why did I choose to attend WCS? I needed some inspiration, I needed to be around people - I needed it to be affordable. I would love to be able to take some of these other classes and workshops, but my husband and I are not wealthy. We have worked very hard and we are getting closer to retirement. This week long school is affordable, plus you can pay it off over the months leading up to the school making it easier to budget for.
What did I learn? Oh my gosh - I learned how to make my own backgrounds. I learned how to use different brushes, when and why. I learned how to highlight and shadow and why. It was so amazing! I finished three paintings during this one week class - three of them!
If anyone were to ask me if they should attend West Coast School I would answer - Absolutely! It is the biggest bang for the buck when it comes to a week long photography class. Class sizes are not crowded and there is a ton of hands on training. Most importantly, the relationships that I have built are wonderful! It doesn't matter if you are new to the Photography industry or if you are a part-time photographer, it doesn't matter if you have been in business for years...if you want to learn something new, this is a great place to get your learning on!
Thank you so much West Coast School and to all of the amazing folks that keep West Coast School working like a well oiled machine!
Keep an eye out for some of the new paintings I have been working on! I can't wait to get back to the computer and paint!
